Penfolds Grange

The popular Australian Penfolds Grange wines, made from Shiraz and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, is a high quality red wine which has a history of over fifty years in its home country. Developed by Penfolds Wines to rival popular French wines in the 1950s, Penfolds Grange has had a number of successful vintages and is a historically significant wine thanks to its production style and quality.

Penfolds Grange is a wine which has come to be appreciated more as the original runs of the wines have aged, and now a single bottle can be worth tens of thousands of dollars (depending on the year of its vintage).

In general the quality of Penfolds wines is high and Penfolds Grange has proven to be no exception. Because the grapes used in Penfolds Grange have been harvested across numerous regions and areas, the wine has a taste that varies significantly from one year to the next, and Penfolds Grange is known more for its consistent quality and the brands reliability than for the taste of a particular years production.

Wine lovers who are looking to fill out their collection with a strong and distinctive wine that shows good value and a tendency to improve significantly as it ages would do well to consider Penfolds Grange as an addition to their wine cellar. Older vintages of the wine have proven to be sound investments, and the wine has consistently won awards in international tasting competitions. Although Penfolds Grange is not a cheap purchase, it makes for an excellent investment and is a significant contribution from Australian vineyards to international wine production.

Recent vintages have done exceptionally well in ratings and prize competitions, and since the end of the 1980s Penfolds Grange has had a deserved reputation as a collectible wine.
