Champagne

For centuries Champagne has been a symbol of wealth, elegance and taste. It was in fact the preferred wine of French royalty, so this reputation is historically justified. Of course these days the wine isnt nearly as rare or exclusive. That said, real Champagne still comes from the same French vineyards where the Romans originally developed it. While all Champagnes are in essence sparkling wine, not all sparkling wines are Champagne. Only sparkling wine produced from grapes grown in the Champagne region can rightfully bear the designation.
Whereas all Champagne was once held to extremely high standards, modern Champagne wines come in many different qualities. Some famous Champagne makers you may recognize include: Cristal and Dom Perignon. Drinking a glass of either of these fine wines comes at a price, but less discriminating wine enthusiasts can certainly find more economical alternatives.
Champagne is also commonly referred to as "bubbly" because like other sparkling wines it contains a significant amount of carbon gas which when released from the bottle causes bubbles to form inside a wine glass. It is this same carbon gas that causes cork and wine alike to literally burst from a bottle upon opening. The effervescent nature of the wine has made it a popular choice at a number of different celebrations.
Modern technology and the popularity of the wine itself has made Champagne accessible to everyone. Every year millions of bottles are shipped from northeastern France to every corner of the world. Wine tasters of every age and class now delight in the unique flavor of this revered wine.
Many people will tell you that Champagne is good with everything, but it is BEST with strong, distinctive flavors like the sweetness of fresh fruit or the sharpness of aged cheese. These foods add clarity to the flavorful qualities of the wine itself.
